Who We Are

Corey Kitchen opened CK Contracting Ltd. in 2009, with one goal in mind. To create a company that was quite different from his competitors. Starting out in the industry as an Installer, quickly moving up to Project Coordinator/Sales Rep, Corey used his prior experience to model a company that was based on honesty, integrity, and high-quality workmanship. CK Contracting does not allow any completed project finish, until it meets the customers’ approval.

CK Contracting Ltd. is now going into their eleventh year of business. All employees are experienced, safety trained, qualified installers. We also have a N.A.C.E Level 3 Inspector on staff that oversees various projects to ensure that manufactures installations procedures are being followed and common surface preparation and installation methods are met.

Our company prides itself on continuous growth, training and research for the newest technologies and products. Continuing education is at the forefront of expanding our business. We have all the necessary equipment and tools, to complete any project. We do not cut corners on surface preparation equipment as it is vital to any coating application. Our young and vibrant energy is what set us apart from the competition, and we are continually searching for the newest and best technologies when it comes to equipment and products.

CK Contracting Ltd. is an approved applicator for Sika Canada and has recently become an approved applicator for Sherwin Williams.

Concrete Surface Preparation

Shotblasting: Shot blasting is a method of concrete surface preparation to allow for the creation of a surface profile for the installation of any epoxy or polyurethane coating/overlayment. Shot blasting is a self-contained machine that uses small ball peen metal abrasives which are propelled at high velocities towards the substrate. The shot blast machine is attached to an industrial H.E.P.A. filter, dustless vacuum, where 85% of the shot is recycled and separated from the dust particles which enter the vacuum for later disposal.

Diamond Grinding: Is another method of concrete surface preparation. This method is done by either a 7”, 17”, 24” or 36” grinder that has a diamond metal blade head/s that remove the top layer of concrete from the surface creating a surface profile. These machines are also connected to an industrial, H.E.P.A filter, dustless vacuum that contains 95% of all dust that is created from grinding. There are many debates about which surface prep method is superior, and there is no right answer. Both methods are exceptionally good in achieving a surface profile for coatings to bond to, it just all depends on the dynamics of the job and the specification of which coating is being installed.

Conventional Epoxy Coatings

Standard 100% Solids, zero VOCs Epoxy Coatings are some of the most common coating applications. Typically installed as a two-coat system, uniform in colour. They provide a wide range of protection for concrete surfaces, including abrasion resistance, non-slip surfaces, chemical resistance, easy to clean surfaces and a solution to protect concrete from everyday wear and tear. This system can add some different installation techniques to meet job specific applications, (where a more aggressive anti-slip or abrasion resistance floor is needed) there is the ability to add fine aggregates to the epoxy to achieve a high abrasion resistance and non-slip surface.

Intended Service

  • Clean rooms and sanitary areas
  • Commercial and industrial facilities
  • Food service areas, institutional and recreational facilities
  • Light to medium duty manufacturing areas, processing and warehousing
  • Retail stores
  • Theaters
  • Aircraft hangars

Decorative Epoxy

These coatings have the same properties as a conventional epoxy. The difference is that decorative additives are applied to the coating for aesthetics and abrasion resistance properties. Example, a high-build broadcast system, uses decorative quartz aggregate and is installed into the epoxy coating, either troweled applied method or a broadcast applied method. This application gives the customer a more aesthetic finish. Like this application is a procedure using vinyl flake that follows the same application steps, but instead of using quartz aggregate a vinyl flake aggregate is applied into the coating. Decorative epoxies are used in areas where the same protection is desired from the attributes of epoxy, but the final product gives the customer an extremely attractive looking floor and greater abrasion resistance properties.

Concrete Polishing

Concrete is one of the world’s most used materials and is found in almost every construction project. Because of its chemistry, it is one of the only materials that with time become stronger and harder. Polished concrete is a vastly growing market and, has come a long way in the last decade or so. With new technologies in diamonds and resins, polished concrete is now becoming a very appealing finish to existing and new concrete floors. Polished concrete has a glossy, sealed, and natural looking appearance. Contractors use heavy duty planetary grinding machines connected to H.E.P.A dustless vacuums, with the use of diamond cutting heads, the top layer of concrete is removed to expose the aggregate. Once a desired look is achieved the operator switches from diamond metal cutting heads to a resin bonded head where the polishing steps begin and the result is a smooth, high sheen, sealed and natural looking concrete floor. Polished concrete is a floor that is environmentally friendly, user friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and durable.

Intended Service

  • Restaurant and cafeteria seating areas
  • Department and retail stores
  • Museums and galleries
  • Commercial lobbies and office areas
  • Show rooms and meeting facilities

Polyurethane Overlayments

A medium to heavy duty troweled overlayment. Consisting of three-components, water dispersed polyurethane, base/cement, and aggregate screed, uniform in colour. Typically installed at a quarter inch to three eighths of an inch. This system is designed to provide excellent resistance to abrasion, impact, chemical attack, and other physical aggression. The system has a similar coefficient of thermal expansion to concrete allowing movement with the substrate through normal thermal cycling. It will perform and retain its physical characteristics through a wide temperature range from -40°C (-40°F) up to 120°C (248°F). Bond strength more than the tensile strength of concrete, meaning the concrete will fail first. Non-taint, odourless and behaves plastically under impact; deforms but will not crack or d-bond.

Intended Service

  • Food processing plants
  • Wet & dry process areas
  • Freezers & coolers, thermal shock areas
  • Dairies, breweries, wineries, distilleries
  • Laboratories
  • Chemical process plants
  • Pulp and paper plants

Polyurethane Coatings

UV stable, designed as a topcoat over polyurethane overlayments, epoxy applications that will be exposed to ultra-violet light. This coating is used as a protection coat and a lock coat for quartz or vinyl flake epoxy systems. There is also a high build polyurethane cement coating designed as a stand-alone coating for concrete substrates or used as a topcoat for polyurethane broadcast textured finished floors. All coatings provide a superior sealed surface with excellent chemical, incredibly good abrasion, and enhanced mechanical-resistance.

Intended Service

  • Food processing plants
  • Chemical storage areas
  • Warehouses
  • Washrooms, laboratories, food preparation areas and chemical process plants.
  • As a topcoat to minimize colour change in conventional Polyurethane Overlayment products caused by exposure to ultra-violet light
  • As a topcoat to protect epoxy coatings from colour change to do exposure to ultra-violet light

Metallic Epoxy

These coatings are 100% solids epoxy and provide all the same properties as conventional epoxy coatings. Adding metallic pigments to the epoxy base allows the installers to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. This type of coating is becoming a demand in the high end commercial and industrial marketplace. These coatings give the effect of a mystic and almost psychedelic floor, giving the customer a very appealing and, creative looking art piece.

Intended Service

  • Restaurant and cafeteria seating areas
  • Department and retail stores
  • Museums and galleries
  • Commercial lobbies and office areas
  • Showrooms and meeting facilities

Concrete Overlayments

These systems are designed to be installed over existing concrete slabs anywhere from 1/4” to 3/8”. They are installed over existing slabs for several reasons; restore deteriorating concrete, level old concrete for the installation of a new covering (i.e., tiles, carpet, coatings), as a decorative stamped overlayment to renew the appearance of old concrete.
